ABC World Information Tonight (titled since September 2014 as ABC World News Tonight with David Muir for its weeknight broadcasts) is the flagship day by day night tv news program of ABC Information , the news division of the American Broadcasting Firm (ABC) tv community in the United States Since 2014, the program's weekday broadcasts have been anchored by David Muir three Since 2015, Cecilia Vega has been anchor on the Saturday editions and Tom Llamas on Sundays. As a result of ABC had nowhere near the variety of associates that NBC and CBS had - and, therefore, especially in smaller markets , was sometimes carried by a station that held a primarily affiliation with one other community, ABC News chose to feed its evening newscast to its associates at 6:00 p.m. Japanese Time /5:00 p.m. Central Time , one half-hour forward of the community newscasts aired by CBS and NBC.

As the youngest and least-viewed of the networks, ABC Information employed the strategy to get a foothold on the American public's consciousness, though stations have been quite free to tape-delay the feed with a purpose to run the information program in opposition to those seen on the other two networks, or, in some larger markets particularly, at 7:00 p.m./6:00 p.m.

Citation wanted Even in areas with three full-time network associates, ABC stations often opted to broadcast the news program in the 6:00 p.m./5:00 p.m. timeslot to entice viewers by presenting the day's national and worldwide news first, thus making it more top news doubtless that they might keep tuned to the station's local newscast immediately following the program (or one half-hour afterward), as a substitute of turning to CBS or NBC.

The program's distinct and easily identifiable theme (whose 4-be aware musical signature was eventually used on other ABC News programs) was written by Bob Israel Rankings slowly climbed to the point where World News Tonight eventually beat both NBC Nightly Information and the CBS Night News , marking the primary time ever that ABC had probably the most-watched community night newscast.

In April 1983, Reynolds turned ill, leaving both Jennings and Robinson to co-anchor the broadcast until his planned return; however, Reynolds would die three months later on July 20, 1983 from bone cancer A rotation of anchors hosted this system until August 9, 1983, when Jennings turned the sole anchor and senior editor of World News Tonight.
